Who is Ashley J. Kendall?

Hi, my name is Ashley (Ash is fine). Like many others, I fell in love with books the moment I first learned to read. At three, I managed to scrawl my name legibly enough to qualify for my own library card. I have my mom to thank for that. Once I read my way through the entire children's section of the library, the staff had little choice but to allow me access to books frequently considered "too advanced" for younger readers. I was warned that I'd need parental permission when I brought these up to the checkout counter, and thankfully, my mom never attempted to discourage me. I began to write short stories of my own, though I didn't take it seriously until I wrote my first horror story at the age of eleven. Since then, I haven't really stopped.

I’ve been sharing my work here and there for many years. I write suspense, horror, fantasy, literary, mainstream and young adult short stories and novels, and I currently have a children’s book in the works. The possibilities seem endless.

It’s an incredible feeling when your characters take on lives of their own. Short stories are a little like a dinner party with strangers; you catch bits and parts of what these people’s lives are about, but most of the time you’re not quite sure who they really are. With novels, well…that’s a relationship. You follow these people around, see them at their best, their worst, and how they manage to get through the day. Though I always have fun with those random dinner parties, these days it seems like they all want to turn into relationships. I hope you'll all enjoy this journey as much as I do.

As for my home life, my spouse and I belong to a handsome young gray tuxedo cat. We adopted him from a local kill shelter when he was six months old. He's usually decent about making his presence known without needing to climb his way up our legs. I look forward to the day when he learns an open laptop computer is not a personal invitation for him to sit on the keyboard. Never give up on your dreams.
